The Philippines is known for its lovely islands and lovely people. A smile everywhere, that is what you see when you visit the islands. Beneath those smiles are real life stories of pain, suffering, torture, and fear of the unknown.
This past Thursday, February 3, Ryan Tani and Garrick Bercero of the Filipino Freethinkers were invited to lecture at the De La Salle University in Manila. Tani discussed the problem of evil and how it is inconsistent with the Christian God while Bercero spoke about how a godless morality is possible.

The words behind “Be fruitful and multiply” came out from the human experience and instinct for survival and the enhancement of life; that is the universal context from which one must understand the verse. That should be the basis for reasoning out that the verse is a testament of loving and valuing life. The Church and many of its adherents see the surface about the love and value for (human) life. Unfortunately, they fail to see the message underneath the surface.
