Hi, everyone! Christmas is nearing…and I need to find my people fast! :) Are there Filipino Freethinkers who are based here in Singapore? It just sucks to be a minority sometimes especially during big religious events.

The wife and I are, but Christmas is a non-event for us! :)

Our first christmas here in SG, we took a trip to see Orchard Road x'mas displays, and last year we got invited to a friend's place. Nothing special, just a house party of sorts, coz most pinoys went home for xmas.

Hello! Wow, it's great that u and ur wife are both non-believers. I got an invitation for Christmas and what I'm worried about is the gift-giving part. Hehe. Or that I'll be put in a hot seat or something like that.

Yup! The wife is an implicit atheist, and I'm an explicit atheist!

You actually don't have to worry about it, the x'mas party we went to last year, except for the food we brought to the party, we didn't bother with gifts! It's their tradition not ours, and not everyone brought gifts. Gift giving is not mandatory! :)

Alright. I'm just scared of being booted out in the middle of the gathering when they find out that I'm an atheist. Hehe. A friend is just bringing me along, so I don't really know the people. Anyway, I now feel better. I am not the only pinoy atheist here in SG. :) Thanks!

Btw, I am an explicit atheist, too. But I find myself becoming the implicit kind. I'm starting to drive my friends away when I launch into my mini-SONA's. Haha!

You shouldn't worry, people at parties don't go around asking what your religion is, they're just there to have a good time! Since you're a guest of a friend, then you're not really obligated to buy presents for the people in the party! :)

Friend, I think you're confused on what explicit and implicit atheist mean. An implicit atheist means someone who lacks belief but does not consciously rejects it. While an explicit atheist is someone who consciously rejects religious belief. "Conscious" being the involvement of complex thought processes

It doesn't mean that if you stop making your mini-SONA, you become an implicit atheist. :)

If ever your parties start out to become some type of bible study party, why would you want to stay? :)

Ooooh. Okay. Noted! I thought is was more on how vocal you are about your stand.
Yeah, I guess I'm worrying too much. I shall enjoy myself on the 25th and eat, drink, and love! Haha!

I wouldn't make it an issue. Unless the party turns into a worship gathering, then I'd probably see myself to the door. Otherwise, go and enjoy the food and company.

Fellow athiest in sg btw ;)

Hi, schmuck! I doubt if they'd turn it into something like that. :) Yehoo! 3 pinoy atheists in SG and counting!

I know of two other FF members in Singapore, I'll let them know about this. I wanted to have a meetup there when I visited a few months ago but I sucked at organizing it! You guys might want to look up the Singapore Humanism Meetup[/url:30i480gc] or Singapore Atheists Group[/url:30i480gc] if you're looking for the godless. Also wanted to meet the Humanists when I visited but alas…

I grew up in Singapore myself, I quite liked it there :)

Fellow freethinkers in SG, if you haven't read Dawkins's new book, The Greatest Show on Earth, the bookshop at Lucky Plaza basement is selling them at $5 only. They sell publisher's surplus, so their new not used!

Rockrae just bought a copy, enjoy! :)
