Oh It's So Unfair to the Catholic Church…

You know, sometimes I think maybe we’re being too hard on Churches. After all, they’re only human…

Go to Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal for the setup, I’ll wait.

Yep.

You know what else I hear when the Vatican cries about statistics of molestation? A whiny, unrepentant child crying, “but the others are doing it too!”.

The comic makes a good point though. These are people who claim to speak for God, who claim that it is through them that their flock can know God and receive his forgiveness. In the Philippines, the CBCP and their priests lie about the reproductive health bill all the time.

In the light of their claim to “God’s word”, they should be help to a higher standard. This should irk Catholics who truly believe that these bishops and priests are the conduits of God. Where are the Catholics holding them accountable for the lies that emanate forth from the pulpit?

  1. Excellent article Jei 😀

I am reminded of this biblical passage:

    Matthew 23:27
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean."

    • Matthew 23:28
"In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness."

  2. Good point.

To all the "religious" people here, let me just say that no human institution is fallible. Not even churches. I believe in God but I do not shove it into other people's faces. If our beliefs turn us into better men, fine. But if our beliefs hinder something as significant as the RH Bill, for instance, then perhaps we've been blind enough.

To the author, you have one of the best points against organized religions that I've read. God's "custodians" should represent Him, not themselves.

  3. CLEARING AWAY THE DEBRIS by Fulton Sheen
    (Reasons to believe in God)

“There is no God; the world is only a machine.”

Did you ever know a machine without a designer?
Did you ever know a designer without intelligence?
Did you ever see a shadow that was not caused by light?
Have you ever read a book that was not first
in the mind of the author?
Then you have seen a world without God!
Remember the wise words of the soldier at Bataan: “There are no atheists in foxholes.”

“I am an atheist: I do not believe in God.”
Would there ever be prohibition unless there was something to prohibit?
Would there ever be anti-cigarette laws unless there were cigarettes?
How could there be atheists unless there was something to atheate?

Atheism is not a doctrine; it is a cry of wrath.
“By night an atheist half-believes there is a God.”

Before you deny God, ask yourself why you deny Him.
Is it because of the way you live?

    • Parleys 200 year old argument — Yawn !!

Can you add anything of OWN thoughts useful to the discussion rather than copy & paste some century old hundreds of times refuted crap – or are you just a Troll ??
Why you deny the existence of the holy trinity of Brahma/Vishnu/Shiva ?

Any evidence for the existence of the most high godfather Elyon or one of his 70 sons ‘The Lord Yahweh’ the Judean fertility god from the Bible and his son Jesus born from a virgin ?? Beside an often repugnant book written from dozens of mainly unknown authors with lots of personal agenda driven modifications of scribes and more copy errors than words frequently self contradicting – written from scores of hucksters all claiming divine guidance ?

Why you "hate" Zeus, Thor, Baal, elephant headed Ganesha … and the at least 2800 other gods invented from humans ??

Why you deny the existence of Santa Claus, the tooth fairy – so you are an A-toothfairyist – and to quote your own nonsense back to you : could be there a tooth fairy and Santa Claus denier , if there is no tooth fairy and Santa Claus truly existing to be denied ???

    • [“There are no atheists in foxholes.” ]

      Actually, there are. http://www.militaryatheists.org/expaif.html

[Did you ever know a machine without a designer?
Did you ever know a designer without intelligence?]

The thing about Intelligent Design…is that it's not intelligent.

Quote-mining bullshit from an obviously ignorant source doesn't make you appear smart at all. It makes you a stupid cow who lacks the spine to speak for yourself, cowering behind the half-baked assumptions of somebody else.

There are atheists in foxholes, the world is not intelligently designed, and you are a moron: Are you content with those facts?

    • [Did you ever know a machine without a designer?

Classic Argument from Ignorance fallacy, in badly written poetic prose. Just because you don't know where something is from, it does not follow that the origin is God. That's being intellectually lazy.

      • I dont see any hatred in this article Mari. Its a call for accountability, not hate.

A Catholic can love or he can hate
A Muslim can love or he can hate
Even an atheist can love or hate

But he who seeks true justice hates evil and loves good. Which one are you Mari? Do you love the evil that your priests are doing to innocent children?

Blessings of the Allah be upon you Mari, may he enlighten your hearts towards Truth.

      • [May i ask how you came about to hate the catholic church? ]

        Hmm, to enumerate some reasons:
        1. The RCC constantly demonizes the LGBT community
        2. The RCC systematically hides child molesters while silencing – if not outright blaming – their victims.
        3. The RCC constantly interferes in the RH bill, despite the detrimental effect its lackoff has had on women's health.
        4. The RCC has attempted to liken atheism to Nazism, which is ironic given Hitler was a devout Catholic.
        5. The RCC's apologists have justified genocide and infanticide.

    • Mari, you just posted Fulton Sheen's ignorant rantings and misconceptions about atheism.

Unless you're attempting to pull off a Poe, give me one good reason to believe that you're truly curious about why we're non-theists, and that you're just not here for a pointless round of Catholic apologetics?

  4. like ret. Bishop Cruz about people in their 40s should not marry. The religious master the art of cherry picking. Ststistics only serves to support their cause NEVER to provide facts to the contrary.

  5. Then what would you say about the Inquirer's editorial condemning RH Bill proponents–I think they have FF in mind–for dragging out the sins of the Church?

    • Which Inquirer editorial? Without seeing the inquirer editorial, the answer is that the sins of the church is relevant when it's trying to act as if it's a moral authority. The root of the Church's political opposition is their sense that they are *the* moral authority and they have to protect the morality of the people. But like any authority, that is only ever given to them by other people. If you can show people evidence of the Church's lack of morals, the "moral authority" of the church erodes.
