Creation, a film about Charles Darwin

It was a pleasant surprise for me when I discovered this film in Apple Trailers. But Ryan tells me it’s not so new and it just didn’t have a distributor due to its controversial content. Well, it seems they have one now, Newmarket Films, so thank God!

I personally prefer this trailer version, or perhaps this, but they are not embeddable. Here’s an old embeddable trailer instead:

It stars Paul Bettany as Charles Darwin and Jennifer Connely as Darwin’s religious wife. It’s based on Annie’s Box, the biography written by Randal Keynes, Darwin’s great-great-grandson. This movie is set to be released on January 22, 2010. I wonder if it’ll make the FF Film Festival. Will it ever be released here? Also, has anyone read Annie’s Box?

  1. Ironically, the google ads on the trailer has an ad for (un)intelligent design. I quite love the idea of romanticizing Darwin, he was just a man too. The lay person should be able to see the passions of scientists that underlies their seemingly cold and hard fields.

  2. Thanks for the info, Andrea 🙂 I guess we can check if there's a distributor of the film here in the Philippines, and if none, we can also try to contact the producers if we can show the film in our local film festival. I'll let others know about your group 🙂

  3. The International Freethought Film Festival is under my direction. When the producers were having difficulty finding a U.S. distributor for this film, we wrote them to let them know that we would love to screen it at the festival. It is wonderful that they were able to get a distributor! Because we are only screening films that are not in distribution (in the U.S.), it will not be screened at the festival. (We would be required to lease it, and as a first year festival, this is not in our budget.) Please let others know about the International Freethought Film Festival. BTW, we are on Facebook and Twitter.

    Cheers! 🙂
