It came as a surprise. An Arroyo will become a saint. Gosh I never know that sainthood runs in the Arroyos blood amidst the charges of corruptions, etc..etc..
Not that I’m a rabid Arroyo critic and I’m not saying there really such a things as “saints”, but with all that deluge the next news I heard is sainthood?
The news is about the beatification of Mother Rosario Arroyo dela Visitacion, the founder of the Beaterio de Molo and the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of the Most Holy Rosary. According to an official Palace statement, several persons claimed to receive favors from God through the intercession of Mother Rosario, even after her death.
Yeah right.
If miracles are true, Pres. Arroyo sure needs it to boost back the confidence of a lot of Filipino and I think she will need more of this “divine intercession” from Big Mike’s great grandma.

Um…okay, since the process for the cause of canonization has started, I guess that means let's leave that for the Vatican to decide. I have reservations about the entire system of canonizing saints, but since this is a matter for Catholics, let's leave that for the Pope to decide. (And good luck to the Arroyos, there's a backlog of Filipinos who are on the longlist of people to be beatified, much less canonized.)
The only problem I see with this news item is if—and when—the Arroyo family decides to use this for political gain (i.e. "this family is related to a SAINT-to-be", with the words "to-be" printed in five-point type, while the word "SAINT" gets printed in 12 feet). This isn't too farfetched, as any jaded Pinoy can imagine…any takers on when GMA and her sosn will start doing this? 😛
