The Theocracy Of Ed Panlilio

“I will not volunteer to run. But if God tells me to run through this collective process, so be it.
I will also come to a personal discernment.
Whatever is the decision that brings peace to my heart,
then that must be His will.”
-Ed Panlilio

“PGMA is evil but what we need is not a saint, let alone a Catholic saint.” This is exactly what I thought when the news reached me that the priest-turned-politician Gov. Ed Panlilio of Pampanga has confirmed to vie for presidency next year May.

Given the historical reality that this country being tagged as Asia’s Most Corrupt have been administered by presidents, senators, congressmen, most of which pledge allegiance to the Roman Catholic fold, is a watertight argument that religious affiliation doesn’t necessarily make a trustworthy and effective public servant.

Early this year we have witnessed the eve of the inauguration of  US President Barrack Obama the way he address the thousands of Americans on how the United States is “a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus and nonbelievers.” And in his commencement speech at the University of Notre Dame, he said that the Golden Rule binds “people of all faiths and no faith together.” If Gov. Ed Panlilio be elected on the highest position in government I strongly doubt that words to this effect will also be uttered, and constitutional separation of Church and State be uphold.
If religiosity of people is the answer to the sickening wide margin between the rich and the poor then why our country is way behind our neighbors despite being bastion of Catholicism?

Let us remind ourselves that no matter how good his intention in running for the presidential position as long as he will go against House Bill 5043 or Reproductive Health Bill, and other national issues concerning moral and intellectual progress we should definitely NOT vote for him, the way I did for born-again televangelist Eddie Villanueva last national election.

Thanks for bringing this up……..its about time that the people realize that this idiotic Christian hogwash wouldnt help the nation either, since religious groups endorse corrupt politicians

Only a freethinking Filipino people will make our nation better!!!!!

  2. What does that mean if god wants you to run? This country does not need a baby…

Do you Gov. Panlilio think you and only you have what it takes to run this country on your own merits and not run like a baby every time to an entity which may or may not give an imaginary answer?

  3. @ marvin:

Then perhaps you could go on a few days leave an fly over here, if that's not burdensome for you. We'd love to hear (and debate) with you. Hopefully, it'd escalate to full blown fistfights, lol! You subscribe to pesarapsychology (?), right? Let's put it to the test, then.

  4. I am very interested to attend to all your meet ups, but unfortunately I am from Iloilo City.

I know what I have said in response to this article. Let's avoid to say Evil to establish foundation in our belief sytems, e.g. that there is no God. It may create confusions in the minds of all who shall read this article.
If Ed Panlillio said those words, its because he believes in personified God. He didnt know that saying those words, just like he accepted the idea that his God (his created God) was with him and always with him.

Anyone can be a President of the Philippines, provided, he must believe that he or she is capable to become.

    Ikaw, ako, sila, kahit sino.

    Best regards,

Please reiterate what you are trying to say in a cohesive manner. Not all people condemning a religious-centered action/individual is part of the Atheist collective(if there is such a thing). Expand your viewpoints just like what the FF are trying to instill to the Filipinos. Look around, use your eyes.

  6. If an Atheist believed that there was no God, why they always said someone is Evil? Evil doesnt exist as God.

Let us make our selves better before commenting on someone’s faults.

What is the Atheist role in developing the minds of the Filipinos?

Let us bear in mind that “we are what we say.”

    Have a great day ahead!

  7. The problem is not that he is a catholic priest, but that does he deserve the seat of presidency?
What are his policies? what are his future plans? What does he intends to do if elected in the highest seat.

  8. “I will not volunteer to run. But if God tells me to run through this collective process, so be it."

Keyword = IF. No one's commanding you to run, especially your giant invisible friend.

  9. wes, the country never really stepped outside the shadow of the catholic church. this has been the case since the spaniards colonized and converted the islands.

  10. It'll be fun to speculate what the country would look like under a catholic theocracy… having an official state religion, mandatory sunday mass for all citizens, a massive revamp of the constitution.. plus I wonder how the treatment for muslims would fare in this new regime. No more Ramadan holidays I suppose, no more mosques, and islamic prayers would have to be done discretely behind closed doors, if at all. If islamic radicals would realize that, *boom!* he goes…

  11. Yeah!! Good one Gerri. Im glad you decided to expose this guy for the Catholic demagogue that he is. Jeesus Harold Fucking Christ. These catholics are just demented. I hope he doesn't win if he runs. He is just what the country doesn't need right now. Another idiot who thinks a sky fairy has given him the right to be king.

  12. I wonder if there is such a thing as separation of church and government in the Philippine Constitution. I'm under an impression that there is none.

    • ONO,

I am inclined to think that the concept of separation of Church and State in this country applies only to stop the government from intervening on religious affairs, and on the issue of religious tax immunity. Everything else is facade.

      Teddydeedodu,

Hi!!! 🙂 IF Ed Panlilio is not a priest he will certainly be another Ed-die Gil (remember him?) – a nuisance candidate. One way or another he is taking advantage of the trust of the people. A good president is someone whose life stance is firmly grounded on reason and not delusion for an official religion sanctioned by an skyhook god-of-the-book.

      Danny,

Exactly. If he win, Quaipo will replace Malacanang. 🙂

  13. The problem with Ed Panlilio is that, as a Catholic priest, he is acting as an agent of a foreign state (the Vatican); and he might pursue policies that are pro-Vatican but anti-PH. I’d bet that he would rule with his “catholic conscience” and not with the law of the land (Constitution). He will be a threat to our republic if he gets a national post.
